The Ice Age Trail, one of only eleven National Scenic Trails in the United States, is a thousand-mile footpath highlighting Wisconsin’s world-renowned Ice Age heritage and scenic beauty. Though the entire Ice Age Trail covers a great distance, it has multiple access points and traverses a wide variety of landscapes. Whether you are looking for a short, after-work jaunt, a multi-day backpacking adventure or a once-in-a-lifetime thru-hike, there’s a segment of the Ice Age Trail that will match what you are seeking.

Flambeau River Gravel Grinder is a promotional bicycle race sponsored by the International Cycling League, LLC adn will be held in Ladysmith on June 16, 2018.  There will be races for all catagories and race distances for everyone.

My family has been riding bikes in Rusk County for close to 50 years. We always marveled at the quiet, but well-kept secret and beauty of the Flambeau river.
We mostly rode on the paved roads where most days we would see more wild life than vehicles!
My son Christian won his first age group race in the Ladysmith Log Jam in 1991!
Then we started mixing in MTB rides on the gravel roads and fell in love with beauty and silence even more….
Last spring, I went to watch Christian, and a guy named Lance ride in a Gravel race called the “Southern Cross” in northern Georgia.
I was amazed at the number of people who raced and how the increase demand for gravel racing was out there.
I also started thinking of how a great gravel race in Rusk County could put this area on the proverbial cycling map.
We are going to have one major addition to the Southern Cross race because spectating was downright boring.
The Flambeau Gravel Grinder will start in the Rusk County Fairgrounds and finish on the beach in Memorial Park.
We will have all types of kid’s races, entertainment, awards ceremonies, food and drink until and after the rider’s finish.
We will have canoe, kayak and paddle board rentals and lessons.
Please come for the race then stay for the rest of Father’s Day weekend playing in the woods and water of beautiful Rusk County!
Sincerely,
John Vande Velde

The Rusk Rider ATV Club was founded in 2002.  Our goal is to keep growing the sport of ATV/UTVing in Rusk County.  Our Club helps maintain our trail north of Weyerhaeuser.  We currently have 24 miles of trail and are always working towards getting more trails open.  We played a key role in getting a route opened in the City of Ladysmith and the Village of Bruce including access into Bruce from the West.  We conduct an ATV Safety Course each year and have worked with local Ambulance and Fire Departments to do mock crash trainings.  We like to promote ATV/UTVing by being visible in our community through participating in local parades and having a booth at various events.  Our meetings are held on the 1st Tuesday of each month (April through November) at the Swamp Road Sportsman’s Club west of Ladysmith starting at 6:30 pm.  Everyone is welcome to attend.  If interested in joining our club, don’t hesitate to contact us.
